Benghazi Falls To Video Protesters

The news, which was pretty much foreordained, could not have come as a shattering revelation to President Barack Obama’s administration, the Joint Chiefs of Staff  at the Department of Defense or former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who this year appears to be running for President of the United states.

The story was prominently featured in Malta Today, but that was because the refugees from Benghazi in Libya were pouring into Malta. The Philippines had already withdrawn from Benghazi. They were, according to a story buried on page A8 in the Hartford Courant , struggling “to evacuate about 13,000 nationals to Malta – this after “the beheaded remains of a Philippine national were found in Benghazi last week and a Philippine nurse was abducted and raped Wednesday," all signs that Islamic militants, as they are sometimes called by the U.S. media, were preparing to add Benghazi to their borderless Middle East Caliphate.

Dotting the “i” and crossing the “t” in Benghazi, Mohammed al-Zahawi, the head of Ansar al-Shariah blew the trumpet of victory: “Benghazi is an Islamic emirate under our rule from now on. God’s law (Shariah) will be imposed on everyone from all nationalities in the city.”

According to the Long War Journal, a group of reporters whose media releases have been proven to be considerably more accurate than those offered by the White House or Secretary of State Clinton, the United States Department of State Operations Center had advised the White House Situation Room and other U.S. security units ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2012, that Ansar al-Sharia was claiming responsibility for the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi that had just occurred.

Witnesses had claimed they saw a commander of al-Shariah, Ahmed Abu Khattala, leading the attack.  Vehicles with the group's logo were seen, and fighters on the scene had acknowledged that they belonged to Ansar al-Sharia. These claims were rebuffed by Mr. Khattala, who said at the time that Ansar al-Sharia hadn't participated “as a sole entity" in the attack, which he characterized as "a spontaneous popular uprising" in response to a film trailer, “Innocence of Muslims,” also heartily condemned by Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Obama and Susan Rice, now Mr. Obama’s National Security Adviser.

In 2008, Ms. Rice was nominated by Mr. Obama as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Reports at the time indicated that that she had preferred to be nominated as National Security Adviser, a post that went to United States Marine Corps General, James L. Jones.

Ms. Rice scooped up the prize after she had made the rounds of television stations following the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi. U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, the personal representative of the President of the United States, and other Americans were killed in the attack.

Ms. Rice, then U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, was selected to peddle the notion, later shown to be a bucket of hogwash but confirmed by Mr. Khattala, that the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi was a response by aggrieved Muslim protesters to an amateur video that had insulted the prophet Mohammed. The protest, Mrs. Clinton insisted at the time, had simply gotten out of hand.

The LongWarJournal report on the seizure of Benghazi by Ansar al-Sharia and its allies may be found here.

Connecticut’s U.S. Congressional Delegation, all Democrats, might want to consult the Long War Journal from time to time. It is exceeding dangerous to rely entirely on staff reports that rely entirely on White House and Pentagon political talking points.

None of the members of Connecticut’s U.S. Congressional delegation have thus far been pestered by reporters asking for their response to the news they may not have seen on page A8 in the Courant. U.S. Senator Chris Murphy sits on the Committee on Foreign Relations, and U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal sits on the Committee on Armed Services.

The PURA soap opera continues in Connecticut: Business eyeing the exit signs

The trouble at PURA and the two energy companies it oversees began – ages ago, it now seems – with the elevation of Marissa Gillett to the chairpersonship of Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulation Authority.   Connecticut Commentary has previously weighed in on the controversy: PURA Pulls The Plug on November 20, 2019; The High Cost of Energy, Three Strikes and You’re Out? on December 21, 2024; PURA Head Butts the Economic Marketplace on January 3, 2025; Lamont Surprised at Suit Brought Against PURA on February 3, 2025; and Lamont’s Pillow Talk on February 22, 2025:   The melodrama full of pratfalls continues to unfold awkwardly.   It should come as no surprise that Gillett has changed the nature and practice of the state agency. She has targeted two of Connecticut’s energy facilitators – Eversource and Avangrid -- as having in the past overcharged the state for services rendered. Thanks to the Democrat controlled General Assembly, Connecticut is no l...

The Murphy Thingy

It’s the New York Post , and so there are pictures. One shows Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy canoodling with “Courier Newsroom publisher Tara McGowan, 39, last Monday by the bar at the Red Hen, located just one mile north of Capitol Hill.”   The canoodle occurred one day or night prior to Murphy’s well-advertised absence from President Donald Trump’s recent Joint Address to Congress.   Murphy has said attendance at what was essentially a “campaign rally” involving the whole U.S. Congress – though Democrat congresspersons signaled their displeasure at the event by stonily sitting on their hands during the applause lines – was inconsistent with his dignity as a significant part of the permanent opposition to Trump.   Reaching for his moral Glock Murphy recently told the Hartford Courant that Democrat Party opposition to President Donald Trump should be unrelenting and unforgiving: “I think people won’t trust you if you run a campaign saying that if Donald Trump is ...

Lamont Surprised at Suit Brought Against PURA

Marissa P. Gillett, the state's chief utility regulator, watches Gov. Ned Lamont field questions about a new approach to regulation in April 2023. Credit: MARK PAZNIOKAS / CTMIRROR.ORG Concerning a suit brought by Eversource and Avangrid, Connecticut’s energy delivery agents, against Connecticut’s Public Utility Regulatory Agency (PURA), Governor Ned Lamont surprised most of the state’s political watchers by affecting surprise.   “Look,” Lamont told a Hartford Courant reporter shortly after the suit was filed, “I think it is incredibly unhelpful,” Lamont said. “Everyone is getting mad at the umpires.   Eversource is not getting everything they want and they are bringing suit. It was a surprise to me. Nobody notified me. I think we have to do a better job of working together.”   Lamont’s claim is far less plausible than the legal claim made by Eversource and Avangrid. The contretemps between Connecticut’s energy distributors and Marissa Gillett , Gov. Ned Lamont’s ...
