Connecticut Commentary: Red Notes from a Blue State

Mark Twain once said about the weather in New England, rudely changeable, “Everyone talks about the weather, but no one seems willing to do anything about it.” The same may be said of the effort on the part of social and political anarchists to destroy all the emblems of the past in order to build a brave new world. No one appears willing to put a stop to their anarchic vandalization of history.  None of the iconoclastic protesters who have defaced statues in Connecticut have yet taken aim at Elihu Yale, whose statue in Yale University remains strangely unmolested. The prestigious college, known the world over, is in New Haven, whose Democrat Mayor, Justin Elicker, recently winked at those, himself included, who wish to air-brush Christopher Columbus from the historical memory of the nation for the crime of… what? Now that Democrats have reclaimed the castle from marauding Republicans, State Senator Martin Looney is flexing his considerable muscles. Looney is the President Pro Tem of the State Senate and, as such, is one of two important gatekeepers steering bills through the legislature; the other is Speaker of the State House of Representatives Joe Aresimowicz, quite literally bought by unions. Aresimowicz is education coordinator employed by AFSCME. Looney’s political turf is Half of New Haven, which last saw a Republican mayor 68 years ago, and Hamden, politically a vassal of New Haven, home of Yale College. Looney has been in politics for a quarter century, and his tenure has taught him a thing or two. Both Looney and Aresimowicz are progressives very much in the mold of Presidential contender Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, socialist presidential contender Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the new face of Democrat socialism, a US Representative from N...

Perhaps the governors of the states should hand out victimization certificates along with birth certificates because – when everyone is a victim, no one will be a victim, and that may help to put an end to the victimization of non-victims nonsense. Students at Yale, we have recently discovered, are victims. One may wonder whether a graduate of Yale or Harvard has been the more victimized. Are any of them more victimized than the fatherless children in Connecticut's shoot-up capitol city, Hartford, which a few months ago was proclaimed the murder capital of New England? Everyone, it seems, wants to get in on the action. In academia, the victimization scam may end in the destruction of the liberties of scientists. Among the most oppressed victims in the 21 st century, we discover, is tortured Penn State University climatologist Michael Mann, who appeared before U.S. Congress at the end of March to declare himself victimized. Consider his bleeding wounds.

“ Hillary, The Other Woman: A Political Memoir By Dolly Kyle ” is in part a Southern bodice ripper, so keep it from the kids. Ms. Kyle (well preserved and pictured to the left) very well may be Bill Clinton’s “first love.” According to a cliff-notes review of Ms. Kyle’s new book written for the Daily Mail by Caroline Howe, the two lovers got it on in high school and kept it on before, during and after Mr. Clinton’s marriage (sort of) to Hillary Clinton, who snatched his heart while the two were students at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

It’s important when you are the Democratic mayor of a large city in Connecticut to have an immovable rug under your feet so that political opponents may not pull it out from under you, sending you sprawling into anonymity. The traditional power structures in cities ain’t what they used to be. In New Haven, while Mayor John DeStefano was tending to more important things – inviting school unions to partner with him in forming educational policy for the city, rolling out the red carpet for illegal aliens or, if one prefers, undocumented workers, community policing – a slate backed by Yale’s unions seized control of the party last year.
