Connecticut Commentary: Red Notes from a Blue State

Guest blog By Sean Murphy In my last commentary ,   I discussed what Bob Stefanowski will face from Republican Party insiders and elected officials.   Keep in mind while Republicans won all over the country since 2010, Connecticut Republicans lost every statewide elected race and could not muster control in the General Assembly.   The reason for that is incumbent Republicans always do what they see as the minimum to get re-elected.   They cozy up to local town committees.   They get their state grants, in many cases via bonding for some local pork project that gets them positive press.   Then after they put their time in, they move on up to a high paying job and get their outrageous pensions and lifetime health insurance.    What are the key issues that need to be front and center?  

Guest Blog By Sean Murphy The August 14 th  Republican primary left me quite confused. In our current environment, only half of Republican voters voted for Joe Markley for Lt Governor. We elected an actual outsider president who, astonishingly, makes and keeps promises.  Americans of all political backgrounds despise double talking politicians.  We can see every day how murderously the Swamp in DC behaves towards President Trump.

Sean Murphy is a conservative activist who lives in Woodbury I have been watching the politicization of recent mass shootings and it is time that we have an informed and unemotional discussion about what is going on today. The issues I am about to discuss are not directed at a specific event, but are general commentary.   I am not an avid shooter or hunter.   I was not brought up around guns.   I have educated myself on firearms in the past few years.   I have attempted to grasp why so many Americans have the positions they do against firearms.

There have been two major political movements in the past thirty years: President Reagan’s and the Contract with America in 1994, both of which started within the political structure of the Republican Party. This is significant for those who want real change from the Republican Party. The problem within the Republican Party is the intentions of many within the establishment. While the majority of the country is right of center (anywhere from 55 to 60%, depending on the poll questions), the interests of the political elite do not correlate with the figures. The primary job of party chairmen is to see that Republicans are elected; they are not necessarily interested in advancing a conservative agenda. That gap is caused in part by the lack of political experience of most people in the movement. The problem is centers around the role candidates play in all this. There are two sides to the Patriot Tea Party coin. Heads: There are those in the movement who believe strongly that politics is about elections. What some have called the “anger” in the movement is directed at both parties.
