In covering the news, one must be mindful of Mark Twain’s admonition about New England weather: If you don’t like the weather in New England, just wait a minute – it will change.
In no particular order, this is what’s new:
FROM FOX NEWS -- "Representatives of the Squad are trying to harm the
coexistence and partnership that exist in the region between Arabs and
Jews," Haddad said. "I think it was [Alexandria] Ocasio-Cortez
herself who said she had no idea about the geopolitics of this region—she’s
right. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib know exactly what’s going on here, but they
decide to lie and twist the facts."
FROM REASON -- Now there's a
legislative push in Connecticut to finally reform the state's eminent domain
laws to prevent another situation like Kelo's. HB 5123, introduced by Rep. Tami
Zawistowski (R-Suffield) would stop the state and its municipalities from using
eminent domain to take property that would be used for any project that
generates income for a private commercial purpose.
FROM THE TELEGRAPH -- Scrutiny is
likely to only increase after Ghislaine Maxwell, the only person in jail for
crimes related to the pedophile financier, offered to speak about the Epstein
files before Congress. “Despite the rumors, Ghislaine was never offered any
kind of plea deal. She would be more than happy to sit before Congress and tell
her story,” a source close to Maxwell told The Daily Mail. “No-one from the
government has ever asked her to share what she knows. She remains the only
person to be jailed in connection to Epstein and she would welcome the chance
to tell the American public the truth.”
FROM NEWSWEEK -- AND THEN THERE'S
THIS: Where there is no crime, there can be no prosecution is fundamental to
what has sometimes mistakenly been called "the rule of law." In fact,
it is the fundamental rule governing the rule of law: Nulla poena sine lege (latin
for "no penalty without law") Reasonable men and women should enforce
the rule and give no head to speculation.
And so ... From Newsweek -- "This systematic review revealed no
incriminating 'client list.' There was also no credible evidence found that
Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions," said
the memo. "We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an
investigation against uncharged third parties."
MEANWHILE, IN NEWSOM'S ECOLOGY SENSITIVE CALIFORNIA... FROM THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICAL -- Siskiyou County officials are
asking for state and federal help in addressing the illegal use of toxic
pesticides at unlawful cannabis grow operations in the region... "We are
battling something far bigger than just an illegally grown plant. This is about
environmental destruction, human trafficking, banned chemical fumigants, and
transnational organized crime networks operating with impunity across rural
America," said Siskiyou County Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue in the press
release. "If we don't act boldly and get support from the State and
Federal partners, the long-term consequences to public health and California's
ecosystems will be irreversible."
FROM THE KANSAS CITY STAR -- ICE
has reportedly arrested a suspected MS-13 gang member in Omaha, Nebraska, who
is wanted for multiple murders in El Salvador. In addition, another suspected
gang member was detained for ordering serious crimes such as murder and drug
trafficking. ICE arrests are expected to further surge following a funding
boost from $2 billion to $45 billion annually.
FROM WASHINGTON EXAMINER -- The
House GOP’s campaign arm is seeking to oust four Democratic lawmakers in
competitive districts by linking them to Zohran Mamdani, who is campaigning to
become New York City’s first socialist mayor.
FROM NBC NEW YORK -- Fairfield
police said a group of kids used a "flatulence spray" near the exit
of the McKinley Carnival on Jennings Beach causing crowds to run from the area.
Fairfield is part of Connecticut‘s glimmering Gold Coast. Admirers of Greg Gutfeld
may wonder how he missed this one.
