Douglas, for all of his ugly opinions<br />of blacks, was right about the Declaration; it's self evident truth was that all peoples <br />have a natural right to self-government. The CSA had the same rights to secede in 1861 as they had in 1776. <br />Our current policy created in the heat of the civil rights moment in 1965 is a function<br />of the self-misunderstanding with which Lincoln endowed us at Gettysburg. He was in no<br />position to lecture us, we immigration restrictionists, about the rights of aliens to <br />immigrate to our country.
